About As-Sadaqah

Sadaqah

The word Sadaqah means Charity in Islam. It is most commonly used to refer to charitable giving. Many people associate sadqah with spending money, however, it is not only about spending money but every good deed of a Muslim can be classified as sadqah (with the condition that it is done for the pleasure of Allah (God) with his/her hereafter in mind);
Sadaqah can refer to a variety of acts which bring joy or benefit to others. Prophet Muhammad pbuh has said “every act of good is charity (sadaqah)” and some examples from other prophetic sayings include smiling at someone, speaking a kind word, helping them or removing harm from their way.

When looking at financial expenditure, there are two types of Sadaqah:

Sadaqah Wajibah – This is charity which is binding in nature. This includes Sadaqah al-Fitr, etc.
Sadaqah Nafilah – This is charity which is not binding in nature but is optional and voluntary. This type includes Lillah etc

As-Sadaqah

*** We only take optional/voluntary charity (Lillah) ***

As-Sadaqah is a group of families and friends who come together collectively to do charity. As-Sadaqah began in Ramadhaan 2014 with friends wanting to do as much charity as possible (building wells, sponsoring orphans etc) during the blessed month, so the thought came to ask other family and friends to join in. It started with 3 friends who would each ask 10 family and friends to be a part of things; so the group was formed. The idea was for each person to give £10 (every week during Ramadhaan) which would all be put together and given towards a different charity project each week. (see projects)
